Upgrade path to new hardware

Subject:

We are currently running Domino 6.5.6 on a small cluster of mail servers.

We are considering an upgrade path of creating new 8.5 servers in the domain, and then migrating users onto the new servers, rather than upgrade the existing servers in place.

Are there any particular issues with this sort of upgrade path?

What would be the order of operations and upgrades for this path? (i.e. when do we upgrade the directory design, etc?)
